Names in the News

P. George Benson, DSI Fellow and College of Charleston President, has been named the recipient of the 2011 Milliken Medal of Quality from the South Carolina Quality Forum. The Milliken Medal of Quality is named in honor of the late Roger Milliken, former President and CEO of Spartanburg-based Milliken & Company. The prestigious award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated leadership, innovation, and outstanding achievement in the implementation of quality systems in their organizations and who have been an inspiration to other leaders and organizations in South Carolina. Benson received a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Bucknell University, did graduate work in operations research in the engineering school at New York University, and received a doctorate in decision sciences with minors in statistics and economics from the University of Florida. A former member of the DSI Board of Directors, Benson became the 21st president of the College of Charleston on February 1, 2007.

Jatinder (Jeet) N. D. Gupta, Eminent Scholar of Management of Technology, Professor of Management Information Systems and Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering and Engineering Management at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, received the 2010-2011 Outstanding Service Award from the College of Business Administration for his extraordinary, excellent, and numerous service contributions to his college, university, and social and professional community. This award is based on the nominations and selection by the College Executive Committee.

Barry Render, the Harwood Professor of Operations Management Emeritus at Rollins College, has just been named editor of Financial Times Press's new Operations Management series. He will be responsible for signing authors to write books in every area of OM, ranging from Behavioral OM to SCM to Project Management and on. The Financial Times Press is owned by Pearson Publishing Ltd., which is also owner of Prentice Hall, which has published all of Barry's textbooks.

Nominations are being solicited for the editorship of Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education (DSJIE) for a four-year term of service to officially begin on January 1, 2012, renewable for another two years. DSJIE is being increasingly recognized as a Category I journal by colleges of business and the new editor has the opportunity to take the journal to the next level. <read more>

The Decision Sciences Institute annually operates a web-based placement system, which provides recruiting information for both applicants and academic institutions searching for faculty.
